4.22.09 (Wednesday) - Posted a big portfolio update. I'm just getting started on a couple of really fun sleeves, and I have a few sleeves and a back that are nearing completion and should be posted soon.

1.8.09 (Thursday) - So:

Gore usually isn't my cup of tea (I can't even watch somebody get blood drawn without having to put my head between my knees) but I have to admit, tattooing maggots is a hell of a good time.

The client wanted the slipknot logo made super disgusting, so I found illustrations of the lower leg musculature and photos of maggots (which is not a google search I'd recommend) and tried to make it look as though the logo was cut out of his leg. Makes me want to go get a bunch of books on Hollywood special effects and start giving people zombie arms and stuff. Ha! Give me six months of these and I'll be the Paul Booth of the midwest!

10.10.08 (Friday) - I got to do an awesome tattoo today:

I was thinking about it while I was working on this piece, and there are plenty of reasons why a person might get a portrait tattoo, but the ONLY reason a person gets a dog portrait is because they love that dog. It makes them a lot of fun to do.

10.06.08 (Monday) - I finished a half-sleeve a few days ago and just got a composite picture put together so I could post it here. He had an existing half-sleeve on his upper arm as well as a tattoo by his wrist, so I blurred those out. (Don't want to take credit for another artist's work.)

You might recognize the TV--we did that several months ago and started working on the rest of his forearm afterward.

9.18.08 (Thursday) - I can't believe how long it's been since I've put up any new tattoo photos. I've been mostly working on bigger pieces lately and they take a lot longer to get finished and photographed.

Today was the first day of an oil painting class I'm taking at KCAI and I'm really excited to be learning a new medium. I slopped a bunch of paint around on a canvas and it was incredibly messy and fun. And I don't even have to be careful because when it dries, if I don't like it (here's the best part!) I can paint over it.

7.15.08 (Tuesday) - Check out the new portrait on the Tattoos page. It's on one of my favorite clients--it's his dad with a sweet 80's feathered haircut and teenage trash 'stache. (The Lionel-Richie-album-cover-style lettering was my own personal touch.)

I'm not sure whether Slick Rick will be flattered or horrified, but I like it!

7.1.08 (Tuesday) - I have some new tattoo photos but I can't get to them because my memory card reader mysteriously crapped out, so I'm posting random weekend pictures instead. Every summer my dog gets so furry and hot that he lays on the tile floor and pants all day, and every summer I think, "we should really take him to a groomer... NAH, I'll just do it myself." So this is what happens when nobody talks me out of it.

6.20.08 (Thursday) - Put up 2 new tattoo photos - a pinup I did last night and a grim reaper. Look close on that stomach... Oh yeah, we totally tattooed inside his navel. If you see this guy on the street go ahead and tell him what a total badass he is. He deserves it.

6.13.08 (Friday) - Serious portfolio update, so check it out. I've finished a few big pieces recently and am getting really close to finishing a few more. It's pretty exciting :)

4.27.08 (Sunday) - Added 2 new tattoo pictures to my portfolio. One is a dragon I've been working on for a while--the client is a super nice guy who sits like a champ and keeps me entertained with funny stories. The other tattoo is a girl done up in the style of French graffiti artist Fafi. Also on a totally cool client, she's a local dj (hence the record and headphones).

I'm staying REALLY busy and am unusually booked up right now (it's that time of year, right?) So don't wait to make your appointment if you want to get tattooed this summer.

4.14.08 (Monday) - Tinkered with the Tattoos section a little and updated the way my portfolio navigates. Please send me an email if it needs some debugging (or if you have comments)!

4.10.08 - Took this picture a few seconds ago (yay Macbook!) and realized two things:

1) I dress like a 12-year-old boy when I'm drawing at home. A couple of $400+ gas bills this winter made us set our thermostat at 65, and I guess the chilliness necessitates constant hoodie action.

2) My studio is really boring. It's the only room in the house with nothing on the walls, no fun furniture, just a desk and a lamp and a hideous ceiling fan. I think it's time to find some stuff to fill it up. I can probably even find a way to write it off. Anybody have any cool old stuff that needs a good home?

3.26.08 - I put up a few new photos in the tattoo section. Check them out here. Also, don't spend your tax refund just yet, because if we start now we can still get a sleeve done from start to finish by the end of the summer (prime tattoo convention time). Who's in?!

2.20.08 - My email is totally screwed.

My account was "spoofed"--which Godaddy customer support tells me occurs when a spammer sets up bogus email accounts to look like they're coming from your domain when they're really coming from some douchebag in his basement. That pisses me off, and so does the lack of prevention strategy, but several thousand of those emails were returned undeliverable, and because of the way my account is set up (it's a catch-all, so I can sort personal and business email in the same account) they all make it back to my inbox. I pay for the super deluxe email crap, but it's still not set up to handle that kind of volume of email (probably because only spammers deal with that volume of email and that's something they try to prevent) so it's sort of crashed my whole email setup.

So if you sent me something recently and didn't get a response, please call the shop and we'll get it worked out over the phone.

1.18.08 - Man, I have a bunch of new photos to update, but I'm just SOOOO lazy. This time of year... I don't know what it is about January but I'd rather crawl in bed with a cup of coffee than go out. And I'd rather hit snooze 10 or 11 times than put my feet on the cold floor. I don't know if it's SAD or just sad. :)

So eventually I'll update the Tattoos section, but for now I'm just going to snuggle up with my dog, cover up everything but my nose with a blanket, and dream about happy summer times.
